You've Got to Admit It's Getting Better...

A few new features here at the Green Asterisk...

For one thing, you may have noticed a lot fewer articles on the front page. This is due to a variety of reasons, one of which is that in a lion's share of these articles I've mostly just been commenting on other articles I've seen throughout the web. Not really very original work. So, in light of this, I've been trying to figure out the best way to share those actual articles with my short commentary in the most efficient way possible. The solution was to share these articles in Google Reader and have the Facebook fan page pick up the RSS feed, but that's not the end of it. There is now a "Other People's News" page on the site. Go there and you can find everything I found interesting over the past few days with a short little blurb of my own opinion. This is one of the biggest things, but that's not all...

A bit of a design tweak: the favicon for the site is now scalable, so if you happened to have a shortcut or something with an icon bigger than 16x16 the asterisk will look pretty at any size. It's the little things in life that really matter... but the big things have to match.

Star Trek: Asterisk is officially live. Follow the adventures of the crew of the U.S.S. Asterisk as they explore the galaxy. You can also play along with them by joining Star Trek Online and looking for Matt@LordSteve. While there may be a relatively linear storyline in the game, Captain Matthew Arkin has a backstory - one that you won't want to miss when he starts investigating it. The favicon is scalable on this site, too. :) If you're looking at the tag line "Asterisk is part of the game..." and wondering why it's familiar, it's taken from Star Trek: Generations in which an aging Captain Kirk responds to a young captain's hesitancy to help a ship in need by saying  "Risk is part of the game if you want to sit in that chair." One of the coolest features of Star Trek: Asterisk is that you can subscribe to the RSS feed in iTunes as a podcast and listen to the officer logs while you read along.

Some more minor technical changes; I just discovered Feedburner can post things to Twitter, so if you follow me there you'll be seeing goo.gl links and hash tags. I've also added the option to subscribe to the feed by email if you're so inclined.

You should be seeing some more original content on the main page after a while, but you can still catch up with all the news I find interesting on the Other People's News page. Progress on Dark Matter is going slowly, but it is going. You should see some pictures of the main characters pretty soon.

I guess that's all for now. Have a wonderful day, and remember: Asterisk is part of the game.
