Review
Previously, on Star Trek: Enterprise...
So, Evil Archer and his buddies have watched the Enterprise go up in a huge explosion at the hands of the Tholians. Some have escaped on escape pods. Captain Forrest is no more. First order of business: escape the Tholians. To be fair, this is pretty much the first order of business any time you meet a Tholian. Because Tholians have just one trick up their sleeve. Out of all the possible technology in the entire universe, the Tholians have decided that the best way to defeat your enemies is to encase them in a web.

No matter, though. The Enterprise NCC-1701 may not have been able to get past the Tholians in Kirk's time, but just as technology had evolved for Humans, the Tholians had to deal with multiple points of contact to create their webs in Archer's time. So the equally equipped Defiant NCC-1764 is able to knock out these contact points easily and fly right past the Tholian brigade.
Maniacal laugh!
After picking up some escape pods and rounding up the rest of the crew, the next order of business becomes to get to know their new ship. Evil Trip says it'll take a while, but he's confident he can eventually figure it out. After that, many of the crew find clothes in random crew quarters around the ship that happen to fit them. Nostalgia hits deep as Archer dons the infamous green fat-suit and peruses the computer in the captain's quarters.

While perusing, he learns all about the Normal Universe of 100 years in the future. Where Kirk was king of the Federation, or something. Hoshi comes in and suggests looking up their personal files. That's when Evil Archer becomes jealous of Good Archer's outstanding record. He was a respected captain and explorer. And all Evil Archer could achieve so far as been first mate. Well now, he decides, the rules will change. with the USS Defiant under his command, he will become emperor.
BUT FIRST THEY HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF THIS GUY!
Yeah, apparently there's a Gorn wreaking havoc on the Defiant. He was brought there as a slave master by the Tholians to take care of their salvage operation. After it viciously kills a redshirt, they go after  it and use a method against it that I believe should have been used a lot more often! They manipulate the gravity plating to make him heavier than he can stand! How ingenious is that? Here are these other crews messing around with force fields and keeping the enemy contained when they could have just made them trip over themselves!

Well, Archer finishes off the Gorn with a phaser blast to the head and the next order of business is to introduce the Defiant to the rest of the Terran Empire. He saves Admiral Black from a rebel Vulcan ship and, in return, Admiral Black says he'll recommend Archer for a promotion as soon as possible, but Archer wants the Defiant. Now he's going crazy. He's seeing hallucinations of Good Archer mocking him for being such a loser while he was able to accomplish so much more. Delusions of grandeur dancing about in his head, Evil Archer kills Admiral Black, takes his crew and declares himself captain of the Defiant.

That's when T'Pol meets covertly with Bearded Soval. (Apparently, all Vulcan males wear beards in the Mirror Universe.) They plan a mutiny and attempt to give the rebels information on the Defiant's technology. They even recruit Phlox and other non-Humans to the cause. Buuuuuuuut they fail.
GET IT TOGETHER, PHLOX!
Later, Archer and Hoshi decide to celebrate Archer's victory by having sex and champagne! Archer announces his plans to erase the database on board the Defiant so that no information about the Normal Universe ever gets out. All seem so to be going well... And then Archer starts to have trouble breathing. Hoshi makes sure he has definitely started feeling the effects of the poison she put in his drink, and then she gets up and lets Travis Mayweather in the room. In what I can imagine having been the most embarrassing, humiliating sight one could ever see, Hoshi makes out with Travis while Archer lays dying.

And that's the story of how Hoshi Sato of the Mirror Universe became Empress of the Terran Empire.

Overall Thoughts
This has been quite a ride! "In a Mirror, Darkly" could just as easily have been called "The Rise and Fall of Evil Archer." As an isolated storyline, there could not have been a better way to invoke all the possible nostalgia points that this story has gained. Bravo to these couple of episodes!
